About THIS PROJECT

A ghost light is an electric light that is left energised on the stage of a theatre when the theatre is unoccupied and would otherwise be completely dark.

The GHOSTLIGHT Digital Legacy Project was begun to address a community need. When a dear friend passes away, the sense of grief and loss is compounded by difficult decisions that need to be made.

What can be done with the memorabilia collected and left behind by loved ones working in the theater, an ephemeral art form?

“You never know when you’ve done your last show, and the reverse of that is that you’ve got to do every show like it’s your last one.”

– MILT COMMONS, Stage Manager

Technology is rapidly changing how the performing arts are practiced today. This site explores how technology can also help to record and share valuable information about the evolution of the art forms.

“He taught me about professionalism, taking every part of the job seriously and doing it correctly so you could put on the best possible show every night.”

JOANIE JUSTER, friend of Milt Commons

We hope that you enjoy perusing the collections of beloved artists and mentors, whose knowledge of artistic traditions and stage craft was unparalleled, as was their devotion to the arts.
